• Joseph "Cody" Statler

    Graphic Designer/Illustrator/Photographer

My eclectic interests and passion for discovery drives me to explore a wide range of visual media. Transitioning between designer, illustrator, and photographer to accomplish each new project, I strive to find the best solution between the form and function of each challenge. I hope to leave my clients as excited about the end results as I am while creating them.

  • "Art is a Verb"

The “Arts” in Statler Arts recognizes art, not as a something you make but the process itself. Art as a verb is not my original idea but one that resonates with me.

It is my attempt to approach both my life and my work in an artistic and creative way.

Here is a passage taken from the brilliant Eric Booth in his book “Making Change: Teaching Artists and their Role in Shaping a Better World.” In explaining his perspective on he difference between Art vs Entertainment, Eric writes:
”Art, on the the other hand, happens outside of what we already know. Inherent in the artistic experience is the capacity to create a new sense of how the world is or might be. That experience of expanding our sense of what’s possible is the artistic experience. Art is a verb. Creating a new sense of how the world is or might be takes imagination; it’s a creative act. It takes artistry to do it— the artistry that all of us brim with, the artistry that teaching artists specialize in activating.”

  • "What's with the Logo?"

    STATLER ARTS LLC.

Originally created for a completely different project, the client decided to go in a different direction. By that time I had fallen in love with this design and everyone I showed it to (besides the client) also echoed my excitement about it. From there it began to take on a new meaning.
It now represents two concepts that feel uniquely true to me. As just mentioned it was an unchosen design that has become my literal symbol of trusting my ideas and expressing myself.
It also represents the “Creative Spark”, that moment of inspiration, when the lightning storm of creativity goes off in our brains. My goal is to continue to explore this symbol and alter, improve, destroy, and expand it as I continue to grow as a creative.
